ONE of Bolton's biggest employers has brought some festive cheer to a hedgehog rescue foundation with a generous donation.

AO, based at the Parklands, Lostock, made the donations of essential kitchen appliances to Chorley Hedgehog Rescue to support the charity in its efforts to rescue and rehabilitate sick and vulnerable hedgehogs during the winter months.

The electricals firm has given an oven, a hob and a washing machine, which the charity says will be put to good use ensuring the hedgehogs get the nutritious, cooked meals they need as well as clean blankets to nest in during their rehabilitation before they are released back into the wild.

Chorley Hedgehog Rescue founder Janette Jones said: "We are so grateful for the generous donation from AO.

"These items will have a huge impact on ensuring we can continue to care for these treasured animals as we pursue our aim of increasing the population of hedgehogs in the local area."

AO donated a range of items including a washing machine

The rescue organisation operates from Ms Jones' home and is dedicated to the preservation and rehabilitation of hedgehogs across the North West.

Winter is one of the most dangerous times of the year for hedgehogs, when they need to seek safe shelter and prepare for hibernation.

This makes Chorley Hedgehog Rescue's work all the more important over the Christmas period and has meant that the donation from Bolton's AO has been extremely gratefully received.

AO managing director David Lawson said: "Janette is doing incredible work and we’re delighted to get behind their effort of rescuing hedgehogs throughout the North West.

"Whilst it was surprising to see how important these kitchen appliances are in looking after the hedgehogs, we hope that our donation can go some way into making a real difference."

Chorley Hedgehog Rescue is still open to further donations and is welcoming new volunteers.
