A TEENAGER is looking for help to pay for his mum’s funeral after she died unexpectedly.

Bryan Colgan, 19, found his 42-year-old mum, Serena Colgan unresponsive at her home in Farnworth on December 12.

Emergency services were alerted as Serena was taken to hospital but she could not be revived.

The cause of her death is yet to be discovered, although she was ill with multiple sclerosis for a number of years.

Now Bryan is struggling to pay the full cost of £4,000 for his mum’s funeral and is looking for assistance.

He said: “My mum and I were very close. She has family but I was the only one that spoke to her. Her own parents won’t be around for the funeral as no-one else talked to her.

“I went around to see her on December 12 and found her unresponsive. It was heart-breaking for me to see, and I didn’t think it possible to cry for three days non-stop. It’s a lot of money to fork out now and I need help with it because I don’t have this kind of money and had no idea how much a funeral would even cost.”

Bryan is currently off work due to post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. His mum was diagnosed with MS eight years ago, which Bryan thinks may have been a contributing factor in her death.

He said: “There’s a lot that has gone on throughout my mum’s life. We were best friends, and she came around to see my seventh month-old son Rylee. She always helped me when I needed it and helped so many other people while she struggled.

“When I was living with her, it was really hard for me because my mum was not well, and I was the only one with her, so the funeral costs lie with me.”

Currently the Go Fund Me page, set up with his older sister Chelsea, is at £510 but Bryan is hoping to raise £5,000.

He said: “Thank-you to the people who have stayed by my side and helped me every day through this, it doesn’t go away and I don’t understand.”

He is planning to close the page, which can be found online under his name, next Wednesday.
