POLICE were on patrol across Bolton over the weekend to tackle violent crime in the borough.

Areas visited included Osbourne Grove in Halliwell and Warby Street in Tonge Moor.

Last week, officers were at Division Street, Bolton.

The high visibility patrols deployed across the borough are part of Operation Valiant, which has been launched to combat violent crime.

By stepping up patrols, the police operation aims to reduce personal robberies by deterring offenders and educating the public about the risks and different steps they can use to keep themselves safe.

As part of the initiative officers are working with Transport for Greater Manchester to keep passengers on public transport safe and pass on key safety message as well as tackling criminal behaviour.

The operation is led by the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit which is a made up of a team of experts from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Greater Manchester National Probation Service, Public Health, NHS, Education, Community Voluntary Sector, Victim’s Voice, Youth Justice and Local Authorities.

The aim is to address the underlying causes of violence and working with communities to prevent it.
