EATING out in the borough need no longer be bad for the waistline.
Bolton Chef Gareth Mason based at Absolute Bar and Bistro in Westhoughton said there are more healthier options on the menu and demand for them is growing.
Vegan and vegetarian food is becoming more popular.
He told The Bolton News: "We have lots of different dishes on the menu.
"Take our brunch menu - there’s a big percentage of people are opting for poached eggs these days, rather than a fry up.
"That’s a cleaner choice.
“I think it’s more important now than in the last few years to offer healthier options and for different dietary requirements like vegan and vegetarian. Cleaner eating is appreciated more these days.
He added: "When you look around Bolton, I think people are getting wise to [healthy eating] and trying to do something different.
“We’re planning to start doing prep meals at Strength Factory gym.”
Home cooking is also a healthy choice.
Gareth said:“There’s so many resources now and you can eat well on a tight budget.
“People think clean eating is boring but it’s not.”
The NHS eat well advice suggests consuming a variety of food types, eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day and drinking between six and eight glasses of fluids daily.
