WANDERERS’ clash with Coventry City in August 2019 will live long in the memories of supporters.

The first team squad – who hadn’t been paid in five months due to issues off the pitch – went on strike.

In their absence, the Whites named their youngest ever starting line-up in the club’s history.

Despite their lack of experience, Wanderers earned a 0-0 draw with nearly 9,000 supporters in attendance at the UniBol.

Two-and-a-half years on, Harry Brockbank and Dennis Politic’s exits mean just three members of the young XI remain at Bolton.

But what happened to the group known as the 'Junior Whites'?

MATT ALEXANDER

Highly-rated goalkeeper who made his senior debut against Coventry, marking the occasion with a clean sheet.

Joined Lancaster City on loan over the summer and spent several months at the Giant Axe as he continues his development.

One of four goalkeepers at the UniBol along with Joel Dixon, James Trafford and Luke Hutchinson, with Matt Gilks stepping back into a coaching role.

HARRY BROCKBANK

Bolton-born defender who joined Wanderers' youth ranks at the age of seven and went on to make 36 first-team appearances.

Spent several weeks on the sidelines after suffering a partially torn Achilles but returned to the squad against Accrington last month.

Recently cancelled the remainder of his contract by mutual consent to pursue an opportunity in the United States.

LIAM EDWARDS

Spent 23 months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury in a training ground accident back in January 2020.

Made his return to first-team action in the 3-0 win at Rochdale back in November, replacing Lloyd Isgrove in stoppage time.

Joined Southport on loan several weeks later and has impressed for the non-league outfit as he continues to build up his fitness.

YOAN ZOUMA

Brother of West Ham defender Kurt Zouma, the Frenchman was a regular starter in his first season at the UniBol.

After leaving the Whites, he had a spell at Barrow and recently joined Conference side Dagenham and Redbridge.

Has made five appearances for the Daggers so far and featured in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Southend in the FA trophy.

JOE WHITE

Came through the Whites’ youth ranks and went on to make five first-team appearances before being released in the summer of 2020.

Following a spell with Lower Breck, he joined FC United of Manchester and was an unused substitute against Bamber Bridge over the weekend.

CALLUM KING-HARMES

Wales youth international who made seven first-team appearances before joining Bamber Bridge on loan.

The winger’s time in non-league was cut short by the pandemic and he was released last summer.

He joined Sutton Coldfield back in October and featured in a 5-2 defeat against Ilkeston Town over the weekend.

SONNY GRAHAM

Morecambe-born midfielder who made 18 first-team appearances, becoming a regular starter under Keith Hill.

Was released by Wanderers last summer and went on to join non-league side Trimpell and Bare Rangers.

JAMES WEIR

The former Manchester United youngster had only been registered in the Bolton squad hours before the opening game at Wycombe.

The midfielder went on to make 12 appearances for the Whites before he was released in January 2020 to make space for new signings.

After leaving Wanderers, he made a surprising move to Slovenian Fortuna League side Pohronie and now plays in Hungary.

DENNIS POLITIC

Was forced to watch from the sidelines last season after suffering a serious knee injury in a friendly at Loughborough.

Joined Port Vale on loan over the summer and scored five goals in 16 appearances for the League Two side.

Has now joined Italian side Cremonese, who sit fourth in the Serie B table – just three points behind leaders Pisa.

EDDIE BROWN

Joined Wanderers’ youth ranks at the age of 10 and went on to make seven first-team appearances before his season was cut short by a torn hamstring.

He was released the following summer and went on to have a brief spell at FC United of Manchester after returning from injury.

RONAN DARCY

Featured regularly in pre-season before joining Norwegian side Sogndal on loan back in August.

Returned to England last month following the completion of the Norwegian season wasn’t available until January due to international red tape.

Came off the bench in last week’s 2-0 defeat against Wycombe at the UniBol, replacing Marlon Fossey.
