A GRANDMOTHER hopes her home-cooked food and bakes will be a hit when her new diner opens at the end of this month.

Marion Love is the woman behind Grandma’s Kitchen in Farnworth – her home town.

The 50-year-old’s bistro-style café will serve mainly breakfasts, with eggs benedict, full English breakfasts, savouries and breakfast burritos on the menu.

Marion gave up her job before the start of the pandemic in 2020 when she worked as a manager for an electric company, to take her love of baking and cooking to the next level.

She said: “I started from home just baking and then gave my full-time job up to do it as a career but then Covid came and I was in a pickle – but I am still here.

“The café will sell home-cooked food with things like lasagne and meatballs sandwiches added to the menu.

“This is what I am known for.”

While coming up with a name for the diner, Marion drew on her experiences cooking with her six-year-old granddaughter, Soraya Love.

She said: “When she was two, we made pizzas together every Friday and I used to call it grandma’s kitchen, because it was, and it just really stuck so I decided to name it that officially.”

Marion started an Instagram food blog in 2017, where she would regularly post recipes for meals and savouries before deciding to start selling her food in 2020.

She said: “I started to bake in the pandemic mainly, because people were already cooking at home, but they wanted cookies and scones delivered."

Marion realised once people were travelling from as far as Newcastle to try her food, that she needed a premises.

Finding somewhere in Farnworth was proving difficult until a customer told her has somewhere perfect for it, which led to the Piggot Street diner.

She said: “I had been looking for somewhere for a while when somebody who bought food off me said he owned premises I could look at. The interior is quite smart, it’s like a bistro and exactly how I wanted it to be

“A lot of people have already been asking when we will open and commenting nice things on our social media posts.”

Grandma’s Kitchen has already attracted over 40,000 followers on Instagram and Facebook.
