YOUNG people with mental health and emotional issues are being supported by the people and businesses of Bolton.

Amazon, based in Logistics North, donated £500 to Bolton NHS Foundation Trust which will be used to buy resources to support the young people.

The trust says it has seen an increase in the number of children and young people admitted to the children’s wards with mental and emotional health issues. And with the recent uncertainty around Omicron, many of Bolton’s children and young people will be particularly vulnerable for a second year running, says the trust.

After learning of the trust's winter appeal, The Small Things, Amazon made a heartfelt donation Irina Popa, area manager delivery operations for Amazon said: “We nominated Our Bolton NHS Charity because we wanted to support a local charity close to our hearts.”

Bridget Thomas, Nurse Director of the Family Care Division said: “We are so grateful to everyone at Amazon in Bolton who nominated Our Bolton NHS Charity. We are incredibly well-supported by our local community but our older paediatric patients are sometimes overlooked. Thanks to the generosity of Amazon Logistics, we can fund mindfulness resources, games and activities designed to entertain, distract and calm older children, particularly those admitted to hospital in a mental health crisis.”

The Small Things appeal was inspired by researcyh which has shown the pandemic, although having brought fear, loneliness and loss, it has also rekindled an appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.

Nada Baki, delivery station manager at Amazon in Bolton, said: “The Small Things appeal really resonated with us and we’re proud to support Our Bolton NHS Charity with this donation. The staff and volunteers at Bolton go above and beyond to provide the best possible care for patients, and we hope this donation will help support the well-being of children and young people at the Royal Bolton Hospital.”
