MARCUS Maddison’s GoFundMe page has passed its £3,000 target to fund a career-saving knee operation.

Maddison has been away from football since his loan spell with Wanderers was cut short due to mental health reasons last April.

The midfielder was aiming to return to the pitch several months later but the injury stopped him in his tracks.

He has now raised £3,600, with ex-Bolton captain Darren Pratley and Kieran Sadlier among those who have donated.

“Thank you all so much. The generosity I’ve seen from people over the past four or five days is ridiculous,” said Maddison.

“We’ve hit our target and I’ve spoken to the hospital today. They’re going to fit me in this week.

“Once the operation is done, I can start to get on the mend and get back into football. It means a great deal to me.”

Maddison made 10 appearances for the Whites after joining on loan from Charlton on the final day of last year’s winter transfer window.

However, he failed to win a regular starting place in the side and had been living away from his young daughter, which had affected his mental wellbeing.

After talks with Ian Evatt and his representatives, Maddison was given permission to cut short his loan and return home with the club’s blessing.

During his time away from football, the midfielder launched his own gaming channel on Twitch.

“People have said to do what makes you happy and gaming has always been a huge passion of mine,” he wrote.
