A BUTCHER has created a special Valentine's sausage filled with champagne and passion fruit.

Mick ‘The Meat’ Jerram, the head butcher at O’Brien’s Butchers and Deli in Blackrod, has revealed the ‘love sausage’ at the butchers to mark Valentine’s Day.

First posting it to Facebook, Mick was sure it would be a hit, as this is not the first time he has invented a new sausage flavour.

He said: “It’s just something I have done regularly over the years. I like to be creative because it’s different. It’s knowing exactly how much of the champagne and passion fruit to put in, you want just a hint of everything.”

Customers can go into the butchers and buy the ‘love sausage’ right now, pairing it with Bombay potatoes or another delicious side for their Valentine’s Day dinners.

Grace Hughes Sinclair owns the butchers while her mum, Geraldine Sinclair owns the adjoining Feast Sandwich and Café.

Geraldine said: “Mick is always making something unusual. For Christmas he made haggis and whisky sausages.

“He gets an idea and then runs with it, and then we get to sell it in the café as well. He’s a romantic so this suits him.”

The butchers opened in 2019 and were hit by Covid but put their name on the map when they started delivering around the area and even went as far as Radcliffe for one woman.

The team, including apprentice Alex Fraser Jones, love helping people in the community when they go to the café or butchers.

Geraldine said: “Butchers have changed over the years. It used to be just buying straight cut meat, but now they have to up their game, creating new flavours to keep it interesting.

“People didn’t know we were here until the first lockdown, because they had to shop differently and more local as supermarkets were running out of things.”

Customers who go into the butchers laugh as Mick introduces the ‘love sausages’, which Geraldine describes as “a little boozy but not too much, it’s the right amount”.

“We put the picture up on Facebook and people are already asking us for it and putting in pre-orders.

“People are still buying the Christmas special ones too, because they love them that much.”

Mick has already planned his Easter special sausages, which will have hints of chocolate in them.
