WHAT do the National Football League's Los Angeles Rams and the Northern Premier League's Ramsbottom United have in common?

Not a lot other than their nicknames, if Edenfield estate agent Simon Holland is to be believed.

"LA Rams are in California," he told The Bury Times in an interview ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals. "It couldn't be further from Bury."

"Sunny California, Los Angeles, the glamour of Hollywood, the Super Bowl, then a wet, windy day in Ramsbottom. It's worlds apart."

Despite the differences between the two teams, Simon is a lover of both of them. And it is this love he wanted to show in a video shared on social media this week.

The video shows Simon on a matchday, February 5, on his way to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium via landmarks such as the fire station and the Tilted Vase.

There is a sad ending, as the match is called off due to the inclement weather.

But the video, which Simon made with the help of GRMedia's Matt Grice, still served a purpose.

He said: "It was a chance to promote the team and town, more than anything.

"I'm banging the drum for Bury as much as I can. When you look at the surrounding towns, Bury to me is different gravy. I'm passionate about all things Bury, and in particular Ramsbottom."

Another aim of the video is for Simon to find other fans of American Football, which for him has been a solitary passion up until now.

He started out as a fan of the sport in general, but he is now a dyed-in-the-wool LA Rams fan and the proud owner of his own helmet.

He said: "Initially, I was supporting any team, really. I loved American Football.

"And it was an excuse to stay up late on a Sunday. I used to buy Budweiser and chicken wings."

"But with the Rams connection, I decided it was the obvious choice.

"I said I'm going in with both feet. I'm going to be LA Rams, forever."

According to Simon, the video received a mixed response from his family. Wife Jane struggled to see past his 'American' accent, but daughter Jazz and sons Jude and Jacob – a professional footballer for Preston North End – all saw the funny side in the end.

Simon said: "Jude thinks it's hilarious. Jacob was embarrassed, but he sees the funny side. Obviously he's too cool for school because he's a professional footballer."

The Super Bowl between the LA Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals kicks off at 11.30pm on Sunday on BBC One and Sky Sports Main Event.
