A HOMEOWNER is calling for traffic calming measures after a car crashed into a boundary wall and into her garden in the early hours of Sunday.

It is the fourth time a car has careered off the road and landed in grounds of Janette Brown’s property.

Police also attended the scene after the car collided with the wall.

The car damaged part of the wall at the junction of Hospital Road and Kibble Brow and Haydock Lane in Bromley Cross, as well as the front of the vehicle.

Police received the call at 12.49am on Sunday.

Janette, who watched the incident later on CCTV, said: “The car was perched on top of our garden wall.

“Sadly its not the first time this has happened.

“Last time it happened I contacted the council, to see if they could put up a crash barrier or something, but they said there was no money available and as it wasn’t a main road, it wasn’t a priority.

“The flying stones caused a lot of damage to my husband’s car last time.

“This time, if the car had been seconds earlier, it would have mowed down a guy walking his dog, plus our pet cat that had to leap out of the way. I’ve written to the council again to see if anything has changed, but it probably hasn’t.

“Ive also got in touch with our local councillor, and she is going to speak to the highways department.

“I wish her luck.

“I think our garden wall is getting beyond fixing, but for now we are keeping the local stonemasons in work.”

Cllr Sam Connor said she is planning to speak to the highways team to see how this can be resolved, and that there is also a meeting being held next week to discuss wider traffic issues in the Hospital Road area.

Cllr Nadim Muslim said: “Any incident like this is of course another reminder that we all must take care.

“However, incidents like this that are potentially caused by criminal activity must be dealt with severely.

“The car appears abandoned after a potential theft and does not appear to have a valid MOT.

"Speeding is never acceptable, and all three Bromley Cross councillors will be working with officers to prevent this happening again in this area.

"I am aware of similar persistent issues in Breightmet, which Cllr Adele Warren was able to successfully prevent, with bollards on a corner which had similar issues, and this is a solution we'll explore in Bromley Cross."

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: "We are aware of a recent crash at the junction of Hospital Road, Kibble Brow and Haydock Lane.

"We understand the concern that incidents like this can cause the local community.

"Over the years, a number of traffic calming measures have been suggested for this area, but these have to considered alongside feasibility and affordability."

Local resident Tracy Thornton said: “It's so dangerous right now in Hospital Road with cars racing and losing control.

“We've had to jump out of the way of cars mounting the kerb and driving on the pavement because they're going so fast and not able to slow down in time to avoid a collision.

“Taking the dogs for a walk is now a dangerous activity in Bromley Cross.”
