TransPennine Express has announced its services will be significantly disrupted on Friday December 18 due to Storm Eunice

The Met Office has announced a rare red warning as Storm Eunice is expected to hit the UK.

There could be gusts of up to 90mph and a danger to life from 7am on Friday.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders said: “After the impacts from Storm Dudley for many on Wednesday, Storm Eunice will bring damaging gusts in what could be one of the most impactful storms to affect southern and central parts of the UK for a few years.

“The red warning area indicates a significant danger to life as extremely strong winds provide the potential for damage to structures and flying debris.

"Although the most exposed coastal areas in the south and west could see gusts in excess of 90mph, winds will remain notably strong further inland, with gusts of between 70-80mph for most within the amber warning area.”

What TransPennine Express services are running?

TransPennine Express has advised customers to not travel on Friday due to the storm and will run an extremely reduced service.

It is not clear which services will be running yet.

The website says: "With severe weather and very strong winds expected across Northern England and Scotland on Friday 18 February because of Storm Eunice, significant disruption is likely and TransPennine Express (TPE) is urging customers on all routes not to travel on this date.

"Emergency speed restrictions are being put in place by TransPennine Express for Friday, and the train company will be operating a minimal train plan.

"Customers are strongly urged to instead travel on Thursday 17 or Saturday 19 February instead."
