TransPennine Express (TPE) has announced there will be strike action across the network this weekend.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) are striking on the weekend of February 19 and 20 due to disputes over pay and rosters.

This is the second weekend that TPE has operated a reduced service due to strikes.

It will affect all services, including those travelling to the Leeds v Manchester United game at Elland Road on Sunday, February 20.

Kathryn O’Brien, customer experience director for TPE, said: “This will be the second weekend that the RMT has chosen to disrupt people’s journeys.

“We are going to do all we can to keep people moving under difficult circumstances but, as with last Sunday, we simply will not be able to operate a timetable that provides a regular service.

“We will continue to review our strike response timetables and will seek to provide additional services where possible.

“Anyone planning on using the train this Sunday is urged to only do so if they absolutely have to.”

There is further action planned for February 27 and March 6.

It is expected that the operating services will be extremely busy.

When is the strike and what is the amended timetable?

Strike action will take place on Sunday, February 20, Sunday, February 27 and March 6 from 12.0am until 11.59pm.

There will be a "significant reduction in available services" according to TPE.

The following services will be affected:

  • Edinburgh – Preston
  • Manchester – York and Hull, via Leeds and Huddersfield
  • York – Scarborough
  • Durham – Edinburgh
  • Manchester – Doncaster
  • Doncaster – Cleethorpes
