A THREE-DAY anti-racism workshop is taking place this week with Bolton Wanderers.

The event, hosted at the University of Bolton Stadium and delivered by anti-racism education charity, Show Racism the Red Card (SRtC), is the first collaboration between the two organisations.

The charity is running educational workshops which will be attended by more than 500 children from schools from across the region.

The children will also get the chance to meet Whites stars Elias Kachunga, Ricardo Santos and Oladap Afolayan, who are all scheduled to attend.

Ex-England international Viv Anderson will join sessions alongside former Bolton stars John McGinlay and Fabrice Muamba. Phil Mason, chief executive of Bolton Wanderers in the Community and Asif Patel from Bolton Council of Mosques.

The even could not be more appropriately timed, as earlier this month Bolton Wanderers’ match away at Morecambe was suspended for more than 10 minutes after supporters shouted racist abuse at the visiting bench, leading to a man being arrested.

Since launching in 1996, SRtRC have delivered anti-racism education workshops to more than 840,000 young people.

Ged Grebby, their chief executive, said: “Hosting a three-day event is a first for us.

"We’re delighted to be partnering with Bolton Wanderers who’ve always been one of the most proactive clubs in the football league when it comes to tackling racism and using their platform to help educate young people.”
