A NEW constituency of Bolton South East and Walkden could be created under new plans by the Boundary Commission.

Now the public is once again being asked to have their say on proposed changes to parliamentary constituency boundaries.

Last year, the commission proposed new boundaries for constituencies in England as part of The 2023 Boundary Review.

The aim is to make parliamentary seats more equal in terms of the registered electorate living in each area.

Initial feedback was collected, and a new round of consultation was opened on Tuesday and will run until April 4.

Under the proposals, the boundary of the Bolton North East constituency would be altered to include Little Lever and Darcy Lever.

Bolton West would also be amended, removing the Wigan ward of Atherton and adding Hulton.

A new constituency of Bolton South and Walkden would be created by altering the existing boundaries of Bolton South East.

Residents can view the proposed changes, and read the comments from the first round of consultation, on the commission’s website.

The public can share their views on the website itself, by email, by letter or at one of a series of public hearings taking place across the country.

Bolton Council’s returning officer, Chief Executive Tony Oakman, said: “Public feedback is an essential part 2023 Boundary Review, giving local people a say in how constituencies are linked to local communities.

“There are many ways to take part and I urge as many people as possible to have their say.”
