IT is National Pub Week, and what better way to celebrate than to say cheers to some of the top local venues that feature in the Good Beer Guide.

The Good Beer Guide 2022, offers 4,500 listings across the UK’s best pubs, bars and breweries, chosen by local CAMRA volunteers as having the best cask beers available.

They are seen as places to savour good beers from small breweries as well as cask-conditioned lagers and world beers and some pubs are highlighted for serving real ciders too.

On the list, there are six from Bolton which include Bank Top Brewery in Astley Bridge, Great Ale at the Vaults, Hen and Chickens, Northern Monkey, One for the Road and the Swan and Barristers.

Meanwhile, there were three entries from Horwich - Bank Top Brewery Ale House, Brewery Bar and Crown.

In Bromley Cross, the Nook & Cranny were recognised, while Brewery Tap in Westhoughton, House without a Name in Harwood.

Liam Convery, from Northern Monkey, says it is fantastic news and Bolton is lucky to have some great pubs and venues recognised by the Campaign for Real Ale officials.

He said: "It is great to be on the list. We are hoping that this year is going to be a good one now that the restrictions have been easing after COVID.

"It is really exciting that we could have a few events lined up.

"There are a few good breweries in the area and are proud of the relationship that we have and locally together.

"We have got some good feedback and we all respect each other and what we do.

"Sometimes you just get your head down and don't see the good work you do."

Nationally, the 2022 Guide has found the total number of independent UK breweries has risen to 1,902 in 2021 from 1,816 in 2020 - showing the highest number of breweries recorded in the Guide since publication began in 1974, and a national increase after recording the first decline in brewery numbers since 2008 in the previous edition.
