ANDY Burnham’s latest letter to the Prime Minister on the Clean Air Zone backed by Bolton MP.
Bolton South East MP Yasmin Qureshi has publicly supported the Metro Mayor's calls that Boris Johnson backs a proposal from Labour leaders for a non-charging CAZ, following the scheme being called “badly thought-out” by the Prime Minister during Wednesday's Prime Ministers Questions in the House of Commons.
The Prime Minister was responding to a question from Bury North MP, James Daly, who said: “The mayor’s plan, a tax on job and opportunity, is based upon flawed data and should be scrapped."
Mr Burnham has consistently stated that the scheme was a legal directive from the government, despite a number of Tory MPs describing it as a Labour plan.
Ms Qureshi has thanked Mr Burnham for his recent letter, saying: “The campaign you have faced from local Tory politicians and opportunistic MPs has been shocking to see.
“The government need to act and get their story straight and stop playing politics.
“They issued the ministerial directive, this is their policy.”
