Malcolm Pittock asked recently ‘What can stop this war because it must stop and the sooner the better’
What I am going to say will upset both Ukraine and I have no doubt many other people.
We should accede to Putin’s demands by allowing Crimea and the two Russian-speaking regions to be recognised as Russian. This is not the best option but it will stop this war instantly.
However, Russia must be made to pay for all the damage which it has inflicted on Ukraine by paying for the rebuilding of the infrastructure and giving compensation for the people who died.
We cannot allow millions of people around the world to starve and this will happen if this conflict continues. It will put at least another 10 million people in this country into fuel poverty.
Some may think that’s a small price to pay but I do not think so.
Negotiations must be watertight but I do not believe our Foreign Secretary is up to the job; I personally would ask the Chinese to negotiate; hopefully they would get it sorted within a couple of days and stop this killing.
And for God’s sake give peace a chance.
