FIREFIGHTERS in Bolton have staged a charity car wash as part of the borough's effort to help the people of Ukraine - and it was a huge success.

Farnworth Community Fire Station hosted a car wash on Saturday to help raise vital funds for the people of Ukraine and they have thanked the community for its support.

A spokesman for Farnworth Community Fire Station said: "The event was really well attended, we haven't got the actual figures yet because we were really busy on the day so we've not actually been able to go through and get the figures but the actual event was really well attended.

"We had the Chief Fire Officer come down for a period as well, giving us a lift washing some cars.

"It was a massive success, lots of people attended and people were very generous with donations, so it was a very successful event."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Bolton Borough thanked the community for the support they showed to raise the vital funds.

On social media, they said: "Massive thank you to everyone who supported our charity car wash at Farnworth.

"Your support is very much appreciated.

"We’ve not counted up yet but the buckets were brimming with donations by the end of the day, so thank you."

Farnworth Community Fire Station isn't the only station supporting Ukraine.

Bolton North Community Fire Station are also hosting their own charity car wash today while firefighters at Bolton Central Fire Station are inviting people to bring their cars down for a wash - or even help out by washing the cars.

Their car wash will take place on March 19 at the station on Moor Lane between 10am and 4pm.

Firefighter Chris Spary said: "We are hosting the event with proceeds going to the Ukrainian relief fund, we usually do it for a firefighters charity but we are changing it this year for the Ukrainian Fund.

"We are all about community, obviously being firefighters, so we just want to show our commitment to all the communities, especially the Ukrainians at the moment.

The charity car washes come as part of an initiative from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, which is also supporting Ukraine by joining a national convoy to deliver thousands of items to support firefighters on the frontline in Ukraine.
