This past week Chris Green, MP for Bolton West has appeared in the Bolton News twice, talking about the struggles that the local and national economy have faced.

It begs the question, does he realise who has been in Government this past 12 years?

On the local economy, Mr Green seems to completely absolve any responsibility from central government and instead attempts to shift the blame onto Labour.

It’s absolutely incredulous that a local MP, would simply overlook the fact that local government funding has been drastically withdrawn over the nearly 12 years his party have been in power.

Also, you don’t have to look very far to see that it is not just Bolton struggling to make ends meet, cutting council jobs, rolling back vital services.

Ask any resident from local towns such as Wigan or Chorley about the cuts they too have had to endure since 2010.

Cuts were deemed unavoidable to balance the books from 2010 to 2019 in Bolton, with the local authority losing hundreds of millions in funding.

The cuts have carried on at the same pace under the current Conservative/Independent coalition, so how can this be blamed solely on local Labour?

I think it’s about time Mr Green began owning up to the failure that his party has been and their betrayal of ordinary people. He can’t shy away from it any longer and I think people are realising just who’s side the Conservatives are on.

Momentum might have been on their side locally over recent years, but people are sick of being taken for fools.

And yes, this Government has shook the proverbial “magic money tree” to find the money to award covid PPE contracts and the disastrous track and trace contract to their donors and friends.

But we haven’t forgotten that while this Government partied into the long hours at Downing Street, millions sacrificed their liberties for the greater good and so I’m sure that the empty bottles wont be the only thing being cleared out of Downing Street before long.
