TRAFFIC officers boxed one car in  and pursued another this morning after suspecting the number plates had been cloned.

A car was boxed in on Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton and detained the driver of suspicion of putting false plates on the vehicles.

While awaiting recovery, traffic officers said they spotted yet another cloned car, this time a Clio.

Police said the driver was found to have cannabis in their possession as well as no insurance.

A statement from police said: “Busy morning so far - A cloned Suzuki Swift was sighted on Cleggs Lane.

“Boxed in and the driver detained. Found to be a provisional licence holder who put false plates on to avoid detection. Car seized.

“And whilst awaiting recovery for the Swift, a cloned Renault Clio passed the patrols.

“It was followed into Farnworth where pre-emptive tactics were used and the driver arrested (on suspicion) for drug driving plus cannabis and the car seized with no insurance.”

A cloned car means a driver used the number plate of another identical looking car to then carry out crimes with the cloned car and to avoid being caught.

This results in two cars with the same number plate on the road.
