Two Bolton businessmen have driven their way across Europe to deliver vital supplies to people in war-torn Ukraine.
The idea came about thanks to discussions between long-time friends Thornton and Lowe managing director Dave Thornton and Anderson Brookes owner Neil Batty who decided to use their contacts in the borough to help people in the invasion stricken eastern European country.

What started as an idea for a collection quickly grew as more and more generous donors came forward.
Thornton and Lowe communications manager Chris Turner said: “It started off just gathering a few things together and then someone in Neil’s family had a van, so it turned into trying to fill this van then it was Dave and Neil who drove it over.”

He added: “They got into Poland and found almost a refugee camp there.”
The two friends took donations from clothing company Ruia as well as a mobile power generator singed with well wishes from AWS Power and medical supplies from the Bolton based Unsworth Group GP practice.

Essential items were also given by staff and parents at St Andrew’s CE Primary School.
The two thanked people from across Bolton for their generosity.
