A FARNWORTH couple have opened a new pet shop after the closure of a store in the same shopping precinct.

Wayne and Suzanne Haslam, 60 and 61 respectively, from Farnworth, have opened a pet supplies shop in Farnworth Shopping Centre.

Called The Pet Stop, Wayne and Suzanne’s shop, next to Eric Clarke estate agents, follows on from Nigel’s Pet Supplies at the centre, which was run by Nigel Cain.

Nigel called it a day after 34 years of running his shop on April 1, but has stayed on at Wayne and Suzanne’s shop to help them settle in.

Singing Nigel’s praises, Wayne said: “Nigel will be sticking around until Suzanne finds her feet, we think for around two to three weeks. He’s been amazing.”

They have found business to be good despite never having run a shop before.

Wayne said: “Custom hasn’t dropped. It has its busy moments but has generally been quite steady.

“We’ve never run a shop before, in fact neither of us have run a business before.”

They also stock pet supplies including cat food, dog food and a large selection of “frozen raw diet”, as well as other various pet supplies.

They will also be doing deliveries.

Wayne added: “We want to go the extra mile.”

Wayne and Suzanne have been married for 35 years and have three children in their 20s.
