A VW Golf was seized by police after it was reportedly on false plates, uninsured and disqualified from driving.

The car, which was chased by officers in Stockport, was allegedly being driven uninsured and by a driver who was disqualified.

The driver is due to appear in court, police added.

A spokesman for police said: "This VW Golf was followed by (a police car) around Stockport earlier. When stopped the vehicle was found to be on false plates, and the driver uninsured and disqualified from driving.

"Vehicle seized and driver will have a date with the magistrates in the near future."

The incident comes just days after a driver was reportedly stopped in Halliwell for having no insurance and 11 points on his licence already.

The Ford Fiesta was flagged by ANPR cameras.

A police spokesman said: “This Fiesta passed XT18 and was flagged as no insurance on the ANPR.

“Driver already has 11 points and will now be summonsed to court.”

Greater Manchester Police announced plans to upgrade its network of ANPR cameras across Bolton and around the city region earlier this year.

In this case, the cameras were used to detect that the driver had been travelling without insurance.

In other cases, the ANPR network is used to detect vehicles that have been stolen or that are being driven without insurance or used for organised crime, all around Greater Manchester.
