BUSINESSES in Bolton rank as the fourth-least compliant for workplace health and safety infringements in the UK, according to new figures.

Information about 289 local authorities from the Health and Safety Executive cross-referenced with company data from the Office for National Statistics was collated by safety solution specialist Seton, with the aim of finding where in the UK was most and least compliant companies were based.

The study collected data on the number of registered businesses, the number of health and safety notices served, ordering them in in terms of number of businesses per infringement notices.

Businesses in Bolton were the fourth-least compliant with HSE guidelines, with 76 notices served throughout a whole year, and 10,565 corporations in the local area. 

Sally Felstead, general manager at Seton hopes that the data will serve as a reminder to businesses on why keeping compliant is key. They said: “Everyone deserves to feel safe at work, which is exactly why regulators such as the HSE and local authorities have numerous guidelines and legislation in place.

“Even so, 142 people across the country were killed at work in 2021, while 1.7m staff suffer a work-related illness every year.”
