Police have cracked down on multiple road traffic offenders in Bolton over the last week as part of an ongoing effort to deal with motoring offences.

Officers dealt with motorists who drove using a mobile phone and one who U-turned and drove the wrong way on a major public road.

A Citroen was stopped on Bradford Road as the database had no record of insurance.

The driver said the vehicle had been borrowed from a friend but was unable to provide insurance.

The vehicle was seized and the driver was reported.

Police also spotted a drive on his mobile on Columbia Road.

The driver was stopped and failed a drugs test for cannabis.

Officers also pursued a Vauxhall Astra on the A666 in Bolton.

The driver did a U-Turn on the carriageway and drove towards oncoming cars.

However a tactical unit brought the pursuit to a safe conclusion and the driver was caught following a foot chase.

Police also responded to reports of two cars racing on John Cross Street.

The two vehicles initially escaped the attention of the police but were located a short time later.

Both cars were found to have been stolen from the Bolton area earlier in the day.

Earlier this month GMP revealed the work of its traffic police community support officers have done this year.

They have attended 666 incidents, processed 5985 speeding offences, handled 1404 number plate offences, 118 seatbelt violations, 16 misuses of a mobile at the wheel and visited 523 speed sites.
