POLICE cracking down on speeding motorists outside schools in Bolton found themselves helping out colleagues after a car overturned in a nearby back street.

Two men were arrested on the scene.

Bolton police have been carrying out an operation to apprehend and educate drivers who are breaking the speed limit.

During the exercise, which was being used to train up officers on how to use the speed guns, a number of drivers were caught driving in excess of the speed limit - outside schools.

Cracking down on speeding in Bolton remains a priority

GMP Transport Unit held live training for 20 officers outside local schools in the borough.

A spokesman for GMP Bolton said: "We caught several drivers at 40mph+ TORs issued We also supported roads policing unit at an accident."

Police are running Operation Portman in the borough after a number of accidents on Bolton's roads.

In the early hours of yesterday (April 1) a vehicle was "spotted at high speed before overtaking on the wrong side of the road past three keep left arrows".

"Driver only passed his test six months ago stating he was showing off to his mates," GMP said.

Police were also out in Little Lever on Friday (April 29) with Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, conducting spot checks for "untaxed, uninsured and any other offences registered against vehicles or keepers".
