A police constable has been suspended and will face the courts after being charged with misconduct in a public office.

Greater Manchester Police today announced that PC Shamraze Arshad, 36, was charged with misconduct in a public office, alleged data breaches and with perverting the course of justice over a year long period between August 17 2020 and August 1 2021.

Arshad, who works in the City of Manchester district, will now appear before Liverpool Magistrates Court later this month.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “A GMP officer has been charged with misconduct in a public office and causing a computer to perform a function to secure/enable unauthorised access to a program/data.

“PC Shamraze Arshad, 12/04/1986, who works in the City of Manchester district, will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on May 26 2022.

“PC Arshad was suspended from duty on July 19 2021 and also charged with perverting the course of justice on July 21 2021.

“The offences are alleged to have taken place between August 17 2020 and August 1 2021.”

The police service has not yet expanded further on the nature of Arshad’s alleged offenses, but further details will be heard when he appears before the magistrates.
