Work is set to begin at the end of this month in Farnworth - and will last approximately four months.

Gas Street, Farnworth will be closed from May 31 until September this year while vital gas works take place.

The council intends to make an order which will prohibit all traffic from proceeding on Gast Street from Wellington Street to Queen Street to allow gas works to take place.

An alternate route for traffic will be via Albert Road, to allow residents to travel around the area with ease.

There are also a number of road closures to take place in Heaton and Deane area.

Mayor Street from Ellesmere Street to Spa Road will have one-way traffic restrictions from May 21 for approximately two days whilst electricity works take place.

And Shrewsbury Road from Chorley New Road to Lincoln Road will be closed from May 30 for approximately two weeks, to allow resurfacing works to take place.

An alternate route for traffic will be via Somerset Road.

To ensure recycling bins are emptied during the works, council officials are asking residents to present them at the nearest accessible point to ensure that they can be emptied on the usual collection days.

Council officials say they want to apologise for any inconvenience the closure may cause.
