A teenager has been arrested this evening in relation to the attack on two elderly men at Doe Hey Bowling Green, Farnworth, on May 1.

Greater Manchester Police, GMP Bolton South posted on social media a statement in connection to the attack which happened at the start of this month.

They said: "You may have read the article in the Bolton News today about the attack on the two elderly gentlemen at Doe Hey bowling green in Farnworth on the 1st May.

"We can confirm that this evening a 16 year old male has been arrested in relation to these offences and is due to be questioned by Officers.

"The male has been arrested for an attempt section 18 assault and a section 20 assault and remains in Police custody."

A pair of elderly bowlers were attacked after asking a group of youths to stop vandalising the green.

The attack took place in Farnworth on May 1 at around 5pm.

The elderly bowlers were left traumatised as a result of the attack.

The man in his 80s, who asked not to be named, said: “There has been antisocial behaviour and vandalism at the bowling club and there has been for a number of years.

“It is not the physical side of it, it’s the mental side.”

He said the other man who was attacked did not wish to speak as he “doesn’t want to go through all that again.”
