A Bolton DJ will be taking on an incredible challenge next week that will see him swap mixing decks for racetracks.

Keiron Torkington, who has already been a well-known figure on the Farnworth DJing scene since he was just 15 years old, will be putting his athletic skills to the test by taking on the Cheshire Triathlon on May 22.

He will be taking to the tracks to raise charitable funds in the names of two very special people, Lewis Kirby who took his own life aged just 28 after suffering from mental health difficulties and Gaz French who is terminally ill with leiomyosarcoma.

Mr Torkington said: “Lewis was a massive fitness fanatic and was a very, very popular personal trainer, alongside being a very big joker with a large personality that everyone misses.

“I have chosen this charity -‘Push Through For Lew- as I have previously suffered in deep moments where I have felt alone and lost.

“I could have easily made the wrong decision to end my life.

“However, I feel this charity has already and will carry on to make awareness that there is help out there if you just speak to someone!

“There are many people willing to listen so don’t be scared to do so.”

Turning to Gaz French and his family, he added: “The doctors gave him weeks to live in June and told us there was no treatment for him as he’s terminal so just palliative care.

“Since then, Gaz has had lots of treatment and his family have received a lot of support through different events.

“However, they still need more, so therefore I want to complete this event to help in this difficult situation!”

Keiron has previously taken on the biking section at the Cheshire Triathlon but this time he will be tackling the full event including a 500m swim, a 21km bike ride and a 5m run.

So far, Keiron has already raised £530 worth of sponsorships ahead of this weekend’s run but still needs an extra push to get him to his target of £750.
