A local open farm has won a prestigious farming award at an awards ceremony.
Smithills Open Farm in Bolton won the award for Agribusiness of the Year at the North West Family Business Awards on Friday, May 13.
Co-owner of the farm Carl Grimshaw spoke to The Bolton News about what the award meant to the family.
He said: “We couldn’t believe it. We’re over the moon, for other people to recognise our hard work is nice.
“It’s the first award that’s recognised us as a family business.”
Carl also spoke on how the awards came about.
He said: “We found out a couple of months ago from the people that organise the awards to say that we’d been nominated for the award.
“One judge came round to visit us four to 5 weeks ago. She was blown away with how we manage it all!”
Carl added: “We got into the top three and were invited to the awards evening. Thought that would be a good evening out, I don’t often get out!”
He also highlighted how the award is good for Bolton, saying:
“It’s good for a business in Bolton to be nominated, we employ a lot of people in the area.
“Since we put it on socials, we’ve had plenty of messages congratulating us.”
