A fire broke out earlier on Saturday in a large industrial wheelie bin at a well-used Bolton town centre car park.

Firefighters from Bolton Central Fire Station arrived on the scene at the NCP Octagon Theatre Car Park at around 5.15pm on Saturday evening.

There they found a blaze underway in a large wheelie bin behind the well-used car park close to the Well Springs and just off Victoria Square.

A fire service spokesperson said: “There were two fire engines from Bolton Central called to a bin fire behind the NCP car park.

“We were there for about 15 minutes, it was one of those big industrial wheelie bins.

“There were no injuries, obviously there was damage to the bin itself but no damage to any other nearby properties.”

Fire crews on board two fire engines were later seen returning to their base driving up Le Mans Crescent next to Bolton town hall.

As yet, fire crews have not determined the cause of the fire but the car park and the surrounding area have often been sources of recurring concerns about public safety.

Anyone who is concerned about a fire or other emergency in their area should always call 999 immediately.
