Officials are warning people to remain vigilant after they recieved more than 700 reports of scam emails in just four days.

Action Fraud, the UK's national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime, recieved 752 reports in just four days about fake Ofgem emails.

The emails state that the recipient is eligible for a rebate as a result of a newly announced government scheme.

The links in the email are fake but lead to genuine looking websites that are designed to steal personal and financial information.

A spokesperson for Action Fraud said: "Your bank, or any other official organisation, won't ask you to share personal information over email or text.

If you need to check that it's a genuine message, contact them directly."

If you have spotted a suspicious email, forward it onto report@phishing.gov.uk
