A POPULAR health diner and takeaway has undergone a revamp after demand for its dishes soared.

The Avocado Health Bar in Horwich has transformed its exterior and interior and more kitchen space to cope with the success owner Michael Walker has found since opening five years ago.

It’s been a week since the new look was unveiled and the menu, laden with fruit and veg smoothies and fresh air fried burgers with zero calorie sauces, is bristling with healthy but tasty meals.

Michael, a qualified nutritionist, said: “We had to get rid of the offices we had become too busy and were turning people away because of it.

“So, we got a lot more equipment including new fridges and we can serve more people, it’s going more towards a takeaway now, but we’ll have more seating soon with heating outside.”

The cabin style gives the diner a cosy feel with lighting to cater for night-time guests.

Avocado Health Bar is also a big hit with athletes with its specially tailored meal preps and nutrition advice.

With Bolton Wanderer’s players like Dapo Afolayan having been regulars in season as well as boxers and a tennis player.

Michael said: “I have a boxer coming to me at the moment who’s about 10 weeks out from a fight, he needs to cut weight, so we start off quite high with food intake and slowly taper it down.

“We used to go to boxing gyms and set up a fridge so the boxers could grab what they wanted and go.

“I work out all the calories and macros send them a PDF.”

As part of the meal prep, Michael attends boxing gyms and holds free talks anywhere on how Avocado can help anyone achieve a fitness goal.

Michael said: “At Avocado it’s all about a good balance, because people don’t want to be healthy all the time.

“The reason I opened it, is because there isn’t any healthy options here with takeaways and restaurants so I saw a gap in the market.”

Now, Avocado is available on Just Eat and Deliveroo giving the fast food takeaways a run for their money as more people switch to healthy options for summer.

Michael uses zero calorie spices and sauces and even zero calorie burger buns, with the sauces made in-house.

Breakfast is a huge part of a balanced diet and at Avocado, there is halloumi, poached eggs and homemade guacamole and salsa on sourdough bread all to be enjoyed while sitting outside in the sun.

Michael said: “The revamp was part of a plan to expand the kitchen area, as the demand for food was growing increasingly difficult to handle with little space.

"Although this meant Avocado had to lose the dining area, seats are still available on high stools as well as seating outside and around the back.”
