A person has died on the tracks at Layton station on the Bolton line.

British Transport Police confirmed this afternoon that a person died on the tracks, saying:

"Officers were called to Layton station at 3.05pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

This news comes after it was reported that all lines were blocked between Preston and Blackpool North.

Northern said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident on the railway between Blackpool North and Preston, the line is blocked.

"Train services are unable to run in both directions between Blackpool North and Preston; please check before you travel."

Numerous lines were said to have been affected, including lines that run through Bolton.

Northern later said the lines had been reopened following the incident, with trains able to call at all stations between Blackpool North and Preston besides Layton, which would be closed until 8pm.

They also said how services between Blackpool North and Preston would be subject to delays of up to 30 minutes.
