A CARE home in Great Lever has apologised for "falling short" after they were awarded a food hygiene rating of one following a recent inspection.

It comes as the Food Standard Agency carried out an inspection on Tuesday, March 1 into Mill View Care Home’s food standards.

The rating means that "major improvement work is necessary".

Advina who own the care home say that since the inspection they have implemented "robust action", including the retraining of all relevant staff members, and making the required repairs to the fabric of the building.

According to the care home the pandemic prevented some maintenance work from being carried out, which had a knock-on effect with other services.

But Mill View say this has now been completed.

A spokesperson for Advina said: “We would like to apologise to our residents that the home received this rating from the Food Standards Agency.

“We set high standards for our teams and regrettably on this occasion we fell short of those expectations.

“We have already put in place a robust action plan to tackle the issues highlighted by the Agency, including the retraining of all relevant staff members, and making the required repairs to the fabric of the building.

“The impact of the pandemic meant it was not possible to have certain maintenance tasks carried out over the last two years and we are pleased that these have now either been completed or are booked in.

“Senior members of our quality team have been leading the improvements at the home and they will stay in place until we are satisfied our rating will be restored to its former five-star status.”

They rated them based on food hygiene and safety, structural compliance, and confidence in management.

What the ratings mean:

There are six different ratings that a venue can be awarded from 0 to 5.

5 - Hygiene standards are very good

4 – Hygiene standards are good

3 – Hygiene standards are generally satisfactory

2 – Some improvement is necessary

1 – Major improvement is necessary

0 – Urgent improvement is required

When it comes to the food hygiene and safety rating, they were given a two.

Their structural compliance was rated three, and they were rated a one for their confidence in management.

Mill View Care Homes on Bridgeman Street, Great Lever, were also given a rating of one in September 2021.

At the time Advina said that they had "implemented the improvements recommended by FSA".
