BOLTON residents who do not pay their council tax by direct debit can now apply for their £150 rebate.

Council tax payers who pay by direct debit have all received the one-off £150 payment, the local authority has said.

And now a link has been uploaded on the council website for others to collect their rebate.

Known as the council tax energy rebate, the government announced a £150 payment to help with energy costs for people whose homes are in council tax bands A to D.

In a statement, Bolton Council said: "People who pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit have now all had their payments issued. .

"People who do not pay their council tax by direct Debit will need to apply for the Energy Rebate.

"You will have the option to have this money paid directly into your bank account or credited to your Council Tax account."

In addition, a discretionary scheme will be available to support vulnerable people on low incomes who do not pay or are exempt from council tax, or whose properties are in E to H.

The council statement added: "We will update the website as soon has the scheme has been agreed."

The £150 rebate, announced in February, is the first one-off payment announced by the government in response to soaring living costs.

And this week, the government announced that households will get £400 of support with their energy bills.

This is a doubling the £200 of support announced earlier this year, the full £400 payment will now be made as a grant, which will not be recovered through higher bills in future years.

Energy suppliers will deliver this support to households with a domestic electricity meter over six months from October. Direct debit and credit customers will have the money credited to their account, while customers with pre-payment meters will have the money applied to their meter or paid via a voucher.
