A man has been arrested after he escaped open prison earlier this week.

Greater Manchester Police sent out an appeal earlier this week asking residents to look out for a man following his escape from open prison.

In a social media post this morning, GMP said they are pleased to report that Darren Pilkington, 39, has been located and arrested in Horwich after escaping from open prison.

A man and a woman have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

This comes a day after Chorley Police shared a post on social media about arresting a wanted man in connection with an incident in Chorley.

The 26-year-old male had checked in for his Easy Jet flight at Manchester Airport yesterday ready for ten days in the sun in Greece.

The male was excited and had picked up his passport the day before his travels - but his plans soon came to a stop.

He was wanted on the Police National Computer in connection with an incident in Chorley.

Chorley police were notified and the Neighbourhood task force attended the airport with Greater Manchester Police where they searched the area for the suspect only to find him returning from the toilet to finish off his lager.

The male was arrested and taken to Preston Custody instead of the beautiful sights of Greece.

Sgt Paul Harrison of the Chorley and South Ribble Taskforce said: "The moral of the story is this.

"Do not commit crimes in Chorley or Lancashire.

"We will find you and it may be at the most inconvenient of times."
