A fire broke out at a business unit in Bolton town centre last night, Saturday, with large plumes of smoke visible across the town.

The fire service and police were to a blaze on Brown Street at around 6.50pm.

A total of 10 fire engines were spotted in attendance at the height of the incident.

Crews brought the fire under control and remained at the scene.

No-one was reported to have been hurt.

Residents were urged to keep their doors and windows closed as smoke billowed into the sky.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property at around 6.50pm last night on Brown Street, Bolton.

"A large plume of smoke was generated by the fire and was travelling towards the town centre."

Brown Street was closed been Manor Street and Well Street as firefighters worked at the scene.
