A drug driver was arrested today after being chased down and boxed in by police on patrol in Bolton.

Officers  spotted the Volkswagen Golf being driven suspiciously while patrolling Farnworth.

They then gave chase and eventually were able to box the car in on Melville Street, with the driver then arrested for failing a drugs test and for travelling with cloned plates.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “A cloned Volkswagen Golf was picked up by SRT Tasking Team patrols in Farnworth.

“The vehicle was boxed Melville Street, Bolton and the driver detained.

“Found to be a provisional licence holder and failed a drugs test for cannabis.

“He was arrested for those offences and using false plates!”

Officers confirmed that as well as arresting the driver they also seized the Volkswagen Golf.

This comes after several other recent cases of crime and anti-social behaviour on the roads in Bolton and the surrounding area including a number of cases of cloned cars, speeding, thefts of vehicles and uninsured drivers.

Officers have appealed for anyone with concerns about similar offences to call 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
