A bus crashed into a building during this evening’s rush hour.

The bus carrying around 10 passengers hit what locals say is a gym at around 6.30pm.

One person has been taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called, and motorists stopped to try and help those on board.

The fire service said the collision involved a bus and a car.

The incident happened at the junction of Market Street and Church Street.

The roads remain closed around the area, with emergency services still on the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire Service said: ""At 18:40 today (10 June), firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus, a car and a building on School Street in Westhoughton, Bolton.

"Two fire engines from Atherton and Hindley stations, and the technical response unit from Leigh quickly attended.

"Crews worked with colleagues from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Greater Manchester Police to assess the area and make the scene safe.

"One casualty was conveyed to hospital by NWAS. Firefighters are currently still in attendance.”

Lisa Forshaw told The Bolton News: “I just stopped the car and went to see if I could help.

“I helped two ladies and the police arrived. I took them to the police because I said they should be checked.

“One said although they heard was a bang and the bus hit the gym. She said it was just awful.

“It looks like the bus took out a window of the gym. But fortunately I think everyone is okay.

“There was a lot of shaken passengers.”
