A new gym is set to open in Bolton town centre after plans to convert the ground floor of an office block were given the go-head.

The proposal will see the ground floor of the building on Knowsley Street, not far from Bolton town hall, repurposed into a gym open every day of the week.

The facility will be opened and run by Warrington based company Colony Health & Fitness.

A statement from the company said: “We propose to alter the unit at Mooreland House from an office unit to a gym facility.

“There will be no external work undertaken as the unit will be mainly kept as is, with the only changes to be the building and construction of showers within the unit.

“This will be undertaken according to drawings provided by a professional builder and will meet all fire, health and safety standards including the construction of a disabled accessible shower unit.

“We do not propose any other changes to the unit internally and as stated above the exterior of the building/any structural elements will remain the same.”

The Bolton News:

The plans have been approved by Bolton Council

Plans drawn up by 53x54 Design Studio show how the gym will be found off Knowsley Street and bordered by Bark Street, Back Bark Street and Duke Street just next to St Andrew and St George United Reformed Church, St George’s Centre and Spinners Hall.

According to the application there are already 15 parking spaces at the site which will be kept by the gym.

The plans were first lodged earlier this year on February 8 and have now been approved as long as certain conditions set out by the council are abided by.

These include making sure the windows and doors are shut while the gym is being used to prevent too much noise getting out into the street and keeping noise levels down generally.

This follows on from a neighbourhood consultation process that was open until March 28 this year.

The new gym will be open between 6.15am and 8.30pm from Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
