A revamp plan for a Bolton youth centre has been approved, with the facility now set to be reworked with a bright new exterior.

The proposal will see new orange and zinc coloured cladding applied to the outside of Horwich Young People’s Centre on Fox Street along with new UVCP window moudling and plans to reposition the drains.

This will replace the blue timber exterior already in place outside the youth centre.

A report from Bolton Council said: “The proposed replacement external materials to the building mainly consist of laminate cladding.

“The colours proposed are of contrast, with a bright colour, red orange, to one portion of the building and duller grey to the other portion.

“It is considered that these colours would be befitting of the use of the property as a youth centre, and the proposed visual appearance would not affect the character and appearance of the building or the application site.”

The revamp plans were first lodged earlier this year in March and now, following considerations by Bolton Council’s planning department, have been approved this week.

As it stands, the site is currently a timber clad blue painted youth centre building, which also includes surrounding grounds.

The main part of the building has a pitched roof and the appearance of a hall.

There are two flat roof elements on either side of the building.

The redevelopment plans will mark a major step for the youth centre, which works with young people across the Horwich and the surrounding area, giving them a place to socialise and take part in a range of activities.

Youngsters using the centre can take park in arts and crafts, computer gaming, cookery and baking and various sports sessions.

There are also free junior youth clubs for nine to 12 year olds and 13 to 17 year olds as well as free play activities for four to 12 year olds.

The centre is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 6.30pm and 8.45pm and and Fridays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

It is also open on Tuesdays from 3.45pm to 5.45pm during term time.
