A CAKE company has left couples stranded before their wedding day without a cake or refund after applying to be struck off the business register.
The Blackrod Cake Company applied to be struck off on Tuesday, June 14.
Brides-to-be have been left scrambling to find alternative wedding cake makers after the company sent an email saying they were ceasing trading immediately.
Owners Whitney and Ian Schofield have reportedly been uncontactable since.
Charlotte Vincent and Wez Kelly are getting married in five weeks time and already had problems with their venue before they received the email about the company going bust.
The couple paid £322 in total by May 7 for the cake.
Charlotte said: “I found them on Facebook last year before Christmas and they had loads of pictures and good reviews.
“We paid the £120 deposit and Whitney said she would be in contact with us.
“They couldn’t do face to face tasting due to Covid so she sent them in the post and I already wasn’t very impressed with them much.”
After charging the couple an extra £100 for their specific design, Whitney allegedly wanted full payment by May 7 before promising to be at the venue with their cake.
Charlotte said: “My husband is a chef and a baker so now so we can just do it ourselves but we feel like we’ve been robbed, it’s awful.”
Another bride-to-be, Georgina Marie Hall is due to get married to Iain Williams on August 28 and had already moved venues after their first booked place went into liquidation.
Georgina said: “I was assured on the 10th by Whitney that the cake tasters would be delivered and she was very excited to make our cake for our wedding after everything we’d gone through.
“We paid £339.50 for the cake then all communication with her vanished. She’s not responding to my emails, her phone has cut off and her Facebook page has disappeared.
“After posting about the situation on Facebook, later that day I received a lovely message from a woman called Tasha explaining she owned Sweet Revenge, a cake company in Blackrod and she wanted to help us by gifting us a cake for our wedding.
“I was so overwhelmed. We’re so grateful to her for helping us out.”
Another cake business who helped someone let down by the Blackrod Cake Company, was Comiskey’s Cupcake Creations.
