A coffee shop is to open in what is fast becoming a food and drink destination.

The French Press is set to open in Westhoughton on Monday, adding to the mix of places where people can socialise and relax.

The coffee shop on Market Street will be run by mother and daughter Gail and Andrea Hunter will run the new establishment, using their years of experience making coffee at places like Costa to head a new venture.

The team will use a French press to make filtered coffee, leaving it on tables to let customers use it and pour it themselves.

Andrea said: “I worked at Costa for 10 years and we just decided to open a coffee shop in Westhoughton.

“We’re a small family run business serving all the usual things like coffees, frappes, bagels as well as French press coffee.

“We’re not from here but I was visiting here and liked the area and we’ve just got so much experience.”

She added:“We’re just really excited and hope that people will come in and try us out.

“We’ll be doing a promotion of just £1 drinks for the opening with hot drinks and ice lattes.

“People can come in and take a look around, get a feel for the place and try some cake.”

Other places which have opened recently in Westhoughton include Italian restaurant Nabucco, which opened in January as well as Absolute Bar and Bistro in August 2021.

Plans are being drawn up to transform Westhoughton Town Hall in a space for the community including place to eat and drink.

Cllr Christopher Hill, who represents Westhoughton North, said: “It’s good to see more shops opening up in the town as we don’t want empty spaces.

“It gets people into the town and that’s what we want.

“And this is clearly what people want in the area. This new café is a French Press so it’s something a bit different as well and it’s nice to have variety.”

Bolton Council leader Cllr Martyn Cox said: “I think the town is making good progress and it’s good to see so many people investing into it.

“It’s difficult to tell a business what they should or shouldn’t open but I put my hat off to anyone who opens a business because they take a risk.”
