A driver has been arrested after being caught with drugs, a knife and an axe following a race with another car.

Police reported on Saturday that while on patrol they had seen the Audi A3 driver racing with a black Mercedes in Farnworth.

They managed to block in the Audi driver in Kearsley as he tried to escape and discovered him to be carrying weapons, while the driver also failed a drugs test for cannabis.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “The Audi A3 was seen racing with a black Mercedes in Farnworth, blocked in by the SRT Tasking patrols in Kearsley as he tried to make off, the driver would be arrested for possession of offensive weapon, bladed article, cannabis and a failed drugs test for cannabis.”

Images supplied by officers at the scene show a knife, axe and a bag of cannabis recovered from the car.

This comes amid recurring concerns about crime and cases of anti-social behaviour on the roads across Bolton including dangerous driving, drink and drug driving and speeding.

Police have urged anyone concerned about crime on the roads to get in touch by calling 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
