A driver was arrested after flipping his car on its side while driving four times over the legal limit for alcohol.

The driver was spotted by police on patrol in Cheetham Hill on Friday evening.

After causing the wreckage the driver then performed a roadside test for alcohol and officers arrested him after finding him to be four times over the limit.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “One from yesterday evening in Cheetham Hill, where the suspected driver of this vehicle was arrested by XT74 for providing a roadside breath sample more than four times the legal limit.

“He remains in custody for interview.”

No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident and police have also not reported any other arrests in connection with it.

This comes amid recurring concerns about car thefts and other crimes and cases of anti-social behaviour on the roads across Greater Manchester.

As well as thefts, this has included dangerous driving, drink and drug driving and speeding.

Police have urged anyone concerned about crime on the roads to get in touch by calling 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
