A BMW driver who was only a provisional license holder has been arrested for drug driving after reportedly trying to escape from police.

Police reported on Sunday that they had spotted the driver, who had previously escaped them, in Radcliffe, and were eventually able to box the BWM 320 in on Ainsworth Road.

On stopping the driver, the officers found that he only held a provisional license with no insurance and he then failed a drugs test.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “This BMW 320 had previously made off from police, not today.

“It was boxed by the SRT Tasking Team and XT21 on Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe.

“The driver was a provisional license holder and failed a drugs test.”

Officers confirmed that the car has now been seized and will be returned to the finance company.

This comes amid recurring concerns about crime and cases of anti-social behaviour on the roads across Greater Manchester.

As well as thefts, this has included dangerous driving, drink and drug driving and speeding.

Police have urged anyone concerned about crime on the roads to get in touch by calling 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
