Five people were taken to hospital after a collision on the M65 near Burnley.

The incident happened on the westbound carriageway between junction 10 and junction 9 after 11pm last night.

The road was closed as emergency services dealt with the collision.

A Lancashire Fire Service Spokesperson said: “At 11:14pm on the 2 July 20, three fire engines from Burnley, Nelson and Colne attended a road traffic collision on the M65 Westbound between Junction Ten and Nine.

“The incident involved one car on fire. Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the car.

“Five casualties were administered first aid by the firefighters and then conveyed to hospital by North West Ambulance Service. Crews were in attendance for one hour and thirty minutes.”
